Faculty and Staff

The Master of Social Work Program at San Bernardino opened its doors in September, 1989.  It was the result of lobbying efforts of local leaders in the social work community who had experienced the shortage of social workers in the region and a dearth of educational opportunities for agency employees who wanted to advance to positions of greater leadership.

This group was committed to serving the needs of children and families at-risk and the needs of people with mental illness.  Thus, the original decision to develop an MSW program and to focus the coursework on Direct Practice, with two specializations in Children, Youth and Families, and Mental Health.

As the years passed, our communities and agencies began to tell us that they needed graduates who could help them with the many community initiatives, partnerships, and grants that would sustain them and help families thrive.  We responded with a third specialization in Macro Practice.

Our vision is to make a difference in the lives of people and organizations, by graduating MSW students who can

  • commit themselves to working with disenfranchised people

  • work with diverse individuals and groups

  • help others build power through their own leadership

  • understand how to work within and network with agencies and communities
