Pa Der Vang's research interest includes mental health in Southeast Asian populations, the effects of early marriage on Hmong women and girls, gender equity, anti-racism and institutionalized oppression and privilege, and the bicultural experiences of new and first generation immigrants and refugees.
Dr. Vang's experiences include clinical social work, county social service program planning, domestic violence intervention and prevention, group and individual therapy, crisis intervention, qualitative research, child abuse prevention and advocacy, and community organizing in the area of social, cultural, and institutional change to improve the lives of Hmong women and girls.
